Rangers split twin bill on Day One of North Texas Softball Bash

February 12, 2017

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball took the road for the second straight weekend, this weekend in Grand Prairie, Texas, at the North Texas Softball Bash. The Rangers started off the tournament with a win over Texas Permian Basin, 3-0, and ended the day on the losing end of a 12-2 game with Eastern New Mexico.

As a team on the day, the Black and Red batted an average of .222, but three Rangers stood out in, Madi Parrott, Macy Madewell and Brittany Corrales, who batted .667, .600 and .400, respectively.

Game One

Madison Garza started in the circle in Game One of the double header, where she was fantastic, allowing just two hits in the contest and just one walk. Her stellar outing along with some offense provided by her teammates, Garza (1-2) completed her first shutout of the year.

Northwestern started off on a good note, putting up two runs in the first inning on a walk and two hits and an error. Jordan Sutton started off the hitting for the Rangers in the first, followed by Parrott immediately after.

UTPB could never get anything rolling throughout the entire game, but the Rangers threatened in nearly every inning, but were only able to capitalize one more time in the seventh where they scored their final run as a team.

Garza's seven-inning outing was the first shutout and complete game of the year for any Ranger.

Game Two

Karly Murray was the Game Two starter in the circle and was solid through three innings, but a couple of errors and some hits caught up with the sophomore pitcher, as she was the unfortunate losing pitcher in the contest.

The Northwestern offense was better in the second game of the twin bill, collecting seven hits as a team, but the Rangers were unable to capitalize with runners on base.

A large part of the designated home team's offense was Madewell, who was an outstanding 3-for-3 in the game, while also scoring a run in the process.

Four other Rangers in Corrales, Alexa Moses, Megan Sanders and Amber Mills had the other hits in the contest.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings, but in the top of the third, Eastern New Mexico plated the first run of the game, but were followed up by Northwestern scoring one of their own in the bottom half of the third.

The third inning was only the beginning for ENMU however as they scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth and sixth and the final four in the seventh inning to put away the Rangers 12-2.
