Storm Drops Series Opener at ASU

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Southeastern was 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight as they found themselves on the losing end of a 4-2 score in the series opener with No. 8 Angelo State on Friday night in San Angelo, Texas.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 1-4 to open the season with a double-header against the Rams scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday afternoon.

Jett Swigart, Hunter Harrison, Garrin Young and Jake Perez each recorded a hit to account for the four SE picked up.

Harrison recorded an RBI on a solo homer and Swigart added an RBI as well on a fifth-inning single.

Scott Richards got the start on the hill and lasted 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits with three strikeouts and six walks, and was hit with the loss to drop to 0-2 to start the season.

Brandon Wolski came on in relief and threw 4.1 innings and allowed no runs while scattering four hits and striking out four.

The Rams put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to take an early 2-0 lead.

Harrison tried to kickstart the Storm offense in the top of the fourth with a solo homer to cut the deficit in half to 2-1.

ASU would answer with two more runs in the bottom half of the fourth to open up a 4-1 lead.

Southeastern would open the fifth with a pair of walks and later Swigart would collect a one-out single to plate Perez to make it 4-2.

The Storm's best chance to cut into to erase the lead came in the seventh when it got a Perez double, followed by a walk by Swigart and a HBP by Brett Akins to load the bases with two outs, but was unable to score.
