Two races on April 4 ballot in Alfalfa County

• Cherokee will also vote on franchise

February 15, 2017

Two races have developed in Alfalfa County for the municipal election to be held April 4. Cherokee and Carmen residents will be voting.

For the City of Cherokee, Michael Lee West and Lance Miller have filed for the Ward 1 commissioner position. Karen Hawkins filed for commissioner at large (mayor). Delana Hansel filed for city treasurer. No one filed for the Ward 3 commissioner opening.

Carmen has two trustee positions open, each with a four-year term. Three people have filed so voting will be required to determine the top two. Chris Moore, Tammy Jean Pruitt and Michael James Wilkinson filed for trustee.

The remaining filings for city offices did not develop into a race so they won’t be on the April 4 ballot.

Jack Davis filed for the only trustee position at Burlington. He will serve on a four-year term.

Helena still has one trustee spot open as two were open. The only filing was by Paula Burkes.

Byron had five openings and five people filed with one for each spot. Those filing were Russell Hoffman for the trustee four-year term, Jim Hudgens and Megan Ferrell for the two trustee positions with two-year terms, Mindi Clark for treasurer for a four-year term, and Barbara Hudgens for clerk for a two-year term.

Jet had two four-year term trustee positions open. Pamela Sands was the only candidate filing.

Goltry also had two trustee positions open. Both were filled when Cam Pekrul and Jeff Greb filed.

Cherokee voters will also have the opportunity to vote on the 25 year franchise agreement between the City of Cherokee and ONG-Oneok in the April election.
