Rec park board to hire firm to make engineering drawings for shelters

The Alva Recreation Authority has wanted shade structures over the baseball and softball seating stands for several years. They spent about 40 minutes Wednesday evening trying to figure out how to get the project done quickly and at the lowest cost.

City Manager Joe Don Dunham pointed out that any project costing over $50,000 would have to be put up for bid. That would require engineering drawings and would delay construction completion until after the next baseball and softball seasons.

He discussed the possibility they could be their own contractor and break the project into sections smaller...
