Baseball Shutout in Conference Opener

February 17, 2017

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Not the start SWOSU Baseball was looking for in the Great American Conference season opener against Arkansas Tech on Friday, as the Bulldogs were run-ruled in seven innings 17-0 while only collecting two hits on the day.

Jason Nichols was the only Bulldog batter to contribute in the hit category, getting on base with two line drive singles to the outfield and improve his batting average to .483 on the year. The rest of the lineup struggled however, combining for 12 strikeouts as a team out of a possible 21 outs in the shortened contest.

Gunnar Cook was charged with his first loss of the season after pitching 3.2 innings while giving up eight runs, seven of them earned on the afternoon. He passed the ball off to Justin Moreno who couldn't get the job done either, allowing nine runs including seven earned.

Arkansas Tech put up crooked numbers in the first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings while Kyle Wilson got the Wonder Boys back in the dugout to hit quickly for most of the day. Wilson earned his first win of the season after pitching a complete game for ATU.

The Dawgs will be back in action tomorrow looking to right the ship for the doubleheader portion of the series against Tech, with first pitch of the second game coming at noon and the third game will follow the conclusion of it after a 30 minute intermission.
