Funeral services for Jack Hort will be Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Chapel with Pastor Aaron Wagner officiating. Jack James Hort was born to Mary Elizabeth (Goeringer) and John Peter Hort February 9, 1925, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and passed away at Alva, on February 18, 2017, at the age of 92 years and 9 days old.

He attended the Cherokee School System through the 12th grade.

Jack was inducted into the United States Army in 1943 and served in World War II until May 1946. He was a sheet metal worker and a Carbine Sharpshooter. He served in Burma and China and earned the American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Ribbon.

Jack worked at Wichita Boeing Aircraft as an aviation sheet metal worker until retiring after 35 years and moving back to Alva.

He was a motorcycle racing enthusiast and owned an Indian Cycle that he loved to race at area tracks and Garden City, Kansas.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Weber; and a brother; Rev. Carl Hort.

He is survived by a niece, Marie Hort; nephew, Andrew Hort; cousins, Jeanene Bender, Royce Bender, Edna Meyer and Dean Honer of Alva; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials in his name may be made through Wharton Funeral Chapel to the Alva Zion Lutheran Church.
