Alva woman avoids the Grandparent Scam

A long-time Alva friend, Sondra Schubert, called me last week suggesting I alert Newsgram readers about a scam attempt she experienced.

She received a call from a person claiming to be her 24-year-old grandson, Seth, saying he was in custody of the Tulsa County Sheriff and he needed money to make bail.

Sondra said, “You don't sound like Seth.”

The caller replied, “The reason the sheriff has me is I was the passenger in a vehicle that rear-ended another vehicle and I pitched forward and broke my nose and it is packed with cotton and that's why I don't sound normal.”
