Alva still assisting at fires to the west

Alva firefighters are continuing to render mutual aid to neighboring counties for wildfires in Woodward, Harper and Beaver counties.
The first call from Woodward County came just as Alva firefighters returned from a grass fire near Capron on Monday, March 6. They were filling up tankers and getting vehicles ready to go into service when the call came about 2 p.m.
Alva Fire Chief Kirk Trekell said that first night, firefighters were involved with what is now called the Selman fire around Highway 34. About the time they arrived, the fire was moving east southeast at the speed of the wind.
