Waynoka man charged with burglary

A Waynoka woman said her ex-boyfriend didn’t know she had a burglar alarm installed. According to court documents, she told police he attempted to break into the house because she refused to talk to him, setting off the alarm.

Brandon Doyle Ross, 31, of Waynoka has been charged with burglary in the first degree, a felony. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for seven to 20 years. He is accused of forcibly pulling off the front screen door and breaking in the front door of his ex-girlfriend’s Alva residence.

Alva Police Officer William Shahan states in the court record that he went to the residence of Ashley Wilson on Maple Street on March 8 after being notified by Woods County Dispatch. He saw that the door frame of the front door had been damaged with pieces of wood and the metal door latches on the living room floor. The burglar alarm was going off. Shahan described Wilson as visibly shaking and crying.

Wilson said Ross, her ex-boyfriend, was no longer allowed in her residence after she found a bag containing syringes in the house. She said she placed his stuff outside and said he could come and get his stuff. Wilson said Ross texted her saying he wanted to talk and showed up at the house, trying to get in. Wilson said she just got the alarm system for the house earlier that day, and Ross did not know about it.

Wilson told Shahan she was in the house when Ross showed up, and he ripped the front screen door open. It was shut, latched and locked. She said he tried to open the front door. When he couldn’t open it, he forcefully opened it, breaking the door frame and setting off the alarm. She said when Ross heard the alarm, he jumped back, ran to his truck and left.

While Shahan and Wilson were talking, she received a text from Ross saying he wrecked his truck and was walking on a broken foot. Woods County Dispatch contacted Ross’s mobile carrier and started an emergency ping to located Ross because of his involvement in a wreck, not knowing if anyone else was involved or hurt.

The cellphone ping showed the phone located in Waynoka on Santa Fe Street where Ross’s parents live. Waynoka Police Officer Bill Huffman located the truck at the residence in Waynoka. Shahan, Huffman and Woods County Deputies David Cummings and Bill Barnum located Ross in the same block as his parents’ address.

When Ross exited the residence, Shahan asked what had taken place. Ross told Shahan he broke the door, saying he took full responsibility and told Wilson he would pay the damage.

Shahan placed Ross under arrest and took him to the Woods County Jail where he was booked on the charges.
