Predicting illness

All the smoke in the air last week: it’s no wonder allergies flair, eyes are itchy, and upper respiratory infections swell. Smoke inhalation is a very dangerous condition in concentration, and long-term may lead to serious illness of the lungs. Scientist believe that lung cancer may have been a leading cause of death among cave dwellers for lack of vented fires.

We have heard old wives-tales of drastic weather changes responsible for sickness, and today it is somewhat based on science. There may even be basis for the threat: “get your coat on before you catch your death of cold.” However, cold...
