The 2017-2018 National Honor Society members.

On Monday, March 6, Alva High School held the annual National Honor Society (NHS) induction of new members. This event was held in at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Tammy Duncan, the Alva High School guidance counselor, was in charge of this ceremony. NHS is a group for students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher who show very strong leadership. AHS has a very strong NHS group.

The induction was performed by the 2017 NHS officers: President Callie Duncan, Vice President Max Parsons, Secretary Alaina Hurst and Treasurer Hannah Kornele.

During the ceremony each officer spoke about a different characteristic that an NHS member should hold. These characteristics include scholarship, service, leadership and character. Then after the speeches, each new inductee was called to walk across the stage, where their parent, guardian or friend pinned them with their NHS pin. Twenty-five Alva High School sophomores were inducted into NHS during the ceremony. The sophomores who were selected as NHS members were Taana Arizmendi-Rosas, Trey Bogdanovecz, Braylon Bradt, Audra Chapman, Braeden Cook, Sabasan Ehninger, Jacob Ervin, Landry Gaddy, Cameron Gordon, Saydy Graybill, Karson Henke, Samantha Herren, Caitlin Hofen, Ashton LaFevers, Leah Maier, Tucker Maltby, Kayleigh McAlpin, Dalton Rose, Priscila Samaniego, Gracie Scarbrough, Stephanie Spellman, Jacob Stewart, Isabella Stout, Bentley Tomberlin and Dylan Whitely.
