Patchwork Friends OHCE group learns about Oklahoma proven plants

The Patchwork Friends OHCE group met for their regular meeting on March 9 at the home of hostess Barbara Cue. JoAnne Prewett called the meeting to order and the hostess led the group in the flag salute. Devotions were given by the hostess from the book “Spiritual Women.” Answering roll call to “What is your favorite Oklahoma Proven Plant?” were Cue, Janice Litton, Dottie Gatz, Prewett, Liz Kinzie, Doris White, Dee Mason and Aleta Nolan. Minutes of the February meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given by Mason.

A report on Achievement Night was given and Patchwork Friends won for the best attendance. Prewett won the Heart of OHCE and will represent Woods County at the District Meeting that will be held in Enid on March 2. Various Patchwork Friends will be volunteers at the Cherokee Strip in April. The Chocolate Fantasy for the Alva City Library will be held March 30. A few members will be making chocolate for this event March 25. Patchwork Friends will meet at the home of Liz Kinzie at 8 a.m. to make nursing home bibs for Beadles Nursing Home. Members reviewed the OHCE Fair Exhibits for 2017 and members picked the two things they want to make for the Woods County Fair.

The lesson on trees and plants of Oklahoma was given by Gatz. She gave each member a handout and talked about the red bud trees and other trees that are common to Oklahoma. She stated that if you had a question about trees, you can call Greg Highfill at the Extension Office. Nolan gave a mini-lesson on making quilt patterns on paper and transferring them to your quilt piece.

In new business, the president reminded the group of the county meeting on May 1, which is usually a salad supper. The next leader's lesson will be at 10 a.m. at the Woods County Courthouse on March 30. White volunteered to attend.

There being no other business, the meeting adjourned. Refreshments were served by the hostess and the hostess gift was won by Prewett. The next meeting of Patchwork Friends will be April 13 at the home of White.
