Golden Suns, Nunbhakdi win Southern Bancorp Invitational

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns golf team shot a second round 296 (+8) to win the Southern Bancorp Invitational for the second straight year while Pia Nunbhakdi won the individual medalist honors at the Big Creek Golf Club in Mountain Home, Ark. on Tuesday.

The Golden Suns will travel to Springfield, Mo. next week for their host tournament, the Central Region Spring Preview being held at the Rivercut Golf Course on April 10-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After shooting a 298 (+10) in the opening round, the Golden Suns followed it up with a 296 (+8) to finish the tournament with a 594 (+18), winning the event by 13 strokes over Central Oklahoma (607, +31) and 19 strokes better than Great American Conference rival Henderson State (613, +37).
Coming into the day in second, Pia Nunbhakdi ended up winning the individual medalist honors after shooting back-to-back rounds of 73 (+1) to close out the tournament with a 146 (+2), outscoring first round leader Lauren Johnson from UAM by four strokes in the second round to win by one stroke.
Senior Caroline Fredensborg, the 2016 Southern Bancorp individual medalist finished just a stroke back of Nunbhakdi after shooting the lowest round for the Golden Suns with a 71 (-1). Fredensborg ended her tournament with an overall score of 147 (+3) and finished in a three-way tie for second.
Anna Frandsen closed out the tournament in a tie for sixth after shooting a 150 (+6) while Avery Struck turned in a tie for eighth after carding a 151 (+7) for the tourney.
