$3.5 million to help restore space center mission control

HOUSTON (AP) — A Texas city located near Johnson Space Center is contributing $3.5 million to an effort to restore a historic mission control room at the center.
The Houston Chronicle (http://bit.ly/2oe3gM7 ) reports the city council in Webster voted Wednesday to make the donation after hearing pleas from residents, many of whom work or have worked at the space center in Houston.
A spokeswoman for Space Center Houston, a nonprofit museum associated with the Johnson Space Center, said they're trying to raise $5 million for the renovation.
