WICHITA, Kan. (April 8, 2017) – Oklahoma Christian freshman Lawanda Harvey improved her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying times in the 100 meters and 200 meters in the Friends Invitational, which ended Saturday at Adair Austin Stadium.
Harvey finished third among 27 runners in the 100 in 11.90 seconds and won the 200, besting a field of 40 runners in 24.02 seconds. Her fellow sprinters Kayla Parker (12.34 seconds in the 100) and Allegra Sloan (27.55 seconds in the 200) also recorded personal-best times in those events, as did 100-meter hurdlers Ivy Lobley (14.93 seconds) and Jordyn Williams (15.22 seconds).
The sprint success continued into the 4x100-meter relay, as the Lady Eagles' quartet of Parker, Lobley, Williams and Harvey placed second among 11 teams in 48.30, just .01 off the school record they set earlier this season.
Senior Layne Hammer won the 1,500 meters in 4:53.82, with sophomore Rachel Meyers setting a personal-best time of 5:12.81 in that event. In the 5,000 meters, two OC seniors recorded career-best outdoor times – Sarah Cobb (18:48.88) and Katie Jones (19:49.08).
Thrower Destiny Grace posted career-best marks in two events – the hammer (89 feet, 4 inches, or 27.22 meters) and the shot put (38 feet, 11 inches, or 11.86 meters).
OC finished fourth among the 20 teams competing at the meet at Friends, a NAIA school.
The Lady Eagles will return to Wichita next weekend to run in Wichita State's K.T. Woodman Classic.
