Multiple program records fall for Muleriders on Friday at Skecher's Carl Kight Invitational

 


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – It was a successful Friday afternoon on the track for Southern Arkansas as multiple program records fell during action at the Skecher's Carl Kight Invitational, while the Muleriders logged eight Top 10 placements against some of the region's top competition.

Tyler Shelton improved his program record decathlon score by over 430 points as he finished in ninth-place with a final score of 5,212. Shelton's previous program best was set last season at the Great American Conference Championships (4,776). Richard Barkhimer also topped Shelton's record from last spring as he placed tenth with 5,133 points.

In the 1500 meter event, Jose Guevara knocked down a 35-year old school record as he placed sixth in the event with a final time of 3:56.99. John Cunningham was the previous record holder in the 1500 meter with a time of 3:59.26 which he set in the spring of 1982.

A pair of distance runners bettered the program record in the 3000 meter steeplechase as Lane Alexander topped Chris Wallace's 2016 time of 9:43.06 by more than three seconds as he placed third in the event at 9:39.58. Bradyn Gower finished fourth behind Alexander with a time of 9:40.63; just 0:1.05 off of Alexander's program record time.

Doug Palmer shaved over ten seconds off of the previous program best and over 16 seconds off of his season best in the 5000 meter event as he placed fifth with a time of 15:01.83. Chris Wallace was also the record holder in that event which he set last season at 15:11.87.

Kennan Hollins recorded a Top 10 finish in the long jump with a final mark of 6.39m to finish in ninth-place. Sinclair Pitts continued his dominant spring in the field as he registered a team season best in the shot put event with a ninth-place throw of 14.32m.
