SE Softball Splits Twinbill Versus ATU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern opened its series against Arkansas tech by picking up a 4-3 victory, but was unable to carry that momentum into the nightcap, falling 10-1 on Friday afternoon at the southeastern Softball Field.

The split moves the Savage Storm to 16-20 overall on the year and 10-16 in Great American Conference play with the final two games of the series slated for a noon start on Saturday.

Jordyn James highlighted the opener with a three-run home run and finished 1-for-2 with three RBI, while Symphoni Shomo and Conner Harmon each posted two hit outings.

Destiny Riddle was responsible for driving in the other RBI.

Emily Cudd got the start and earned her 12th win after allowing three runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.

Riddle faced five batters over the course of the game, allowing a hit and striking out one while recording four total outs.

ATU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second with an RBI single and a sac fly, but James would answer in a big way in the bottom half with a three-run shot to left center that also drove in Harmon and Thompson and opened up a 3-2 lead.

A Riddle squeeze bunt in the third would tack on another run and make it 4-2.

It was a needed insurance run as the Golden Suns would get one more run in the fifth but the Storm would hang on for the 4-3 win.

Things did not run as smoothly in the nightcap as Riddle posted a pair of hits while four others had one each.

Ashley Moore would go the distance and take the loss after allowing 10 runs, seven earned, on nine hits with one strikeout.

ATU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Storm had an answer in the bottom half when Shomo scored on a passed ball to make it 2-1.

Unfortunately, the Suns would answer with a six run second and two more in the third to open up a 10-1 lead which would hold to be the final score after five innings.
