REVEREND JAMES D. ELLIS

Reverend James D. Ellis, 84-year-old retired United Methodist Church minister, died Thursday, April 6, 2017. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, in the Sharon United Methodist Church with Reverend Debbie Kerr officiating. Interment followed in the North Persimmon Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

James David Ellis was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on March 13, 1933; he was the son of Earl Jeter and Frances Marie (Kerr) Ellis. He attended elementary schools in Amarillo, Texas, and Oklahoma City and graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1952. He was married to Carroll Lee Lively on December 20, 1958, in Sharon, Kansas. James attended college at Oklahoma City University and completed the Ministerial Course of Study at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas in 1968. He served United Methodist churches across Oklahoma, including Sharon, St. Mark's in Oklahoma City, Union City, Loyal and Harmony, Talihina, Catoosa, Leedey and Camargo, Freedom and Quinlan, Custer City and Independence before retiring from full-time ministry in 1984. James moved back to Sharon taking part-time employment with the Sharon Mutual schools and High Plains Vo-Tech as a bus driver, before retiring in May of 1998.

James is survived by two sons, David Lee Ellis and wife Jan of Pampa, Texas; Steven Ellis and wife Cheryl of Alva; three grandsons, Jacob Ellis and fiancé Taryn Phillips; Brandon Ellis; and David Ellis; one great-grandson; Leo Ellis; sisters-in-law, Lois Whitson and husband Floyd of Sharon, Kansas; Glenna Ellis of Oklahoma City; Faye Richmond and husband Albert of Sharon, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Joe Lively and wife Angel of Sayre; Jimmy Lively and wife Betty of Sharon, Kansas; Kenny Snider and wife Liane of Woodward; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol, brother, Earl Joe Ellis and granddaughter Carlie Ellis.
