Four governors in one year – Part 2

As we saw last week, Gov. John Milton of Florida committed suicide on April 1, 1865. Milton was distraught over the South losing the Civil War, and he was pessimistic about what life in Florida would be like after the war was over.

A few hours after Milton’s death, the president of the Florida state senate, Abraham Allison, was sworn in as Florida’s new governor.
