Jill Webb named head softball coach

April 14, 2017

Following a nearly two-month span of being the interim head coach, Jill Webb is officially being announced as the next head softball coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Director of Athletics Brad Franz is very pleased with the team's progress and excited to see where coach Webb will lead the Lady Ranger softball program.

"I am very pleased to welcome Jill Webb as our new Lady Ranger head softball coach," Franz said. "Jill has been on staff all year and her taking over the head coaching duties when she did and making the strides we have made is fantastic. Jill is exactly the type of person and leader we are looking for in a head coach. She has a strong work ethic, is a staunch believer in the academic success of her players, has tremendous connections in recruiting, she has played the sport at the highest levels and is an teacher of the game. I am truly pleased we have her as our coach and I know she will have tremendous success on and off the field for years to come."

Webb has been a member of the softball staff since August of 2016 and has quickly made her mark on the program, ultimately providing her with the opportunity to lead the Lady Rangers for the foreseeable future.

The team continues to climb the ladder in the Great American Conference standings as they currently sit in a tie for sixth overall and are just a single game back of East Central for fifth.

The Black and Red started coming into their own during the East Central series, taking two of the four games with the Tigers. That solid weekend was immediately followed by a 3-1 series win over Arkansas-Monticello who currently sits third overall in the GAC on the year.

Northwestern continued to surprise people in late March where they took a split at Southern Arkansas who was then ranked No. 3 in the country.

Coach Webb's team has continued to make strides since that series as well and will be looking to make more going forward.

Webb is excited to lead the program into the future and is focused on continuing the success.

"I'm beyond thrilled and excited to be able to take over this program full time," Webb said. "This is a great group of girls and Northwestern is a great place to work. I see bright things for the program moving forward and I'm excited to continue what we've been working on over the last couple of months. I would also like to thank President Cunningham and coach Franz for having the confidence in me to take over as the leader of the program."

Prior to joining the Northwestern softball staff, Webb held the assistant position at the University of Redlands in Redlands, California. She was a member of the staff for two full years and her responsibilities included coaching third base, working with catchers as well as outfielders.

Some of the accomplishments while a member of the Bulldog coaching staff, she coached one All-American, three All-Conference players, five All-Region players and four players that were named Academic All-Conference selections. The team also made the 2016 SCIAC conference tournament following a successful 26-16 campaign.

Before arriving at Redlands, Webb was the lead assistant at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, where she assisted in all aspects of the softball program.

She was very accomplished as a part of the Skidmore staff as well, as the team finished 6-6 in conference play, following just a two-win conference record the year prior. The coaching staff was also named the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year at the conclusion of the season.

From 2011-2013, Webb was a graduate assistant for the Elmira College softball program. She was an integral part of the operation there for the Soaring Eagles. As the graduate assistant, Webb had full-time assistant duties, ultimately preparing her for her future coaching positions.

Following a dismal one-win conference victory count in 2012, Webb helped the program make a large turnaround in 2013 where EC won eight conference games, good enough for a second-place finish in the Empire 8 conference. They carried an overall 25-14 record, including a 13-1 home slate.

Prior to becoming a coach at Elmira, Webb was a standout Division I athlete at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. She was a catcher and big hitter for the Hoyas during her four years there.

She is also a graduate of the prestigious Georgetown where she majored in American Studies while minoring in History.

Webb now resides in Alva with her Fiance Zeke.
