Baseball Takes Series Opener over SNU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern put up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and pull out a 5-2 victory in the series opener over Southern Nazarene on Friday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.
The win is the third-straight and lifts the Savage Storm to 12-21-1 overall on the year and 10-13 in Great American Conference play with a double-header set to close the series at noon on Saturday, with a senior day ceremony at 11:30 to send off Southeastern's seven seniors.
Hunter Harrison and Brett Akins each recorded a pair of hits, while five others had one apiece.
Luke Thomas, Jett Swigart, Micah Simmer and Brandon Wolski each drove in a run.
Scott Richards got the start and allowed one hit over 4.2 innings of work with a strikeout.
Harrison would come on in relief and tossed 1.2 innings and allowed two runs on two hits with a strikeout.
Wolski would come on to finish the game and toss 2.2 innings, recording the win after scattering a pair of hits and a pair of K's.
Akins put SE on the board in the bottom of the fourth when he scored after the catcher overthrew the pitcher, taking a 1-0 lead.
That stretched to 2-0 in the sixth when Simmer grounded out to first which allowed Harrison to score.
SNU would tie the game with a two-run double in the top of the seventh.
However, the Storm would have an answer in the bottom of the eighth, first with Harrison scoring the go-ahead run on a Thomas single.
Akins would come around to score on a Swigart sac fly, and Thomas would stretch it to a 5-2 lead when he scored on a Wolski groundout. The 5-2 margin would hold to be the final.
