GAME ONE:

Southwestern Oklahoma State used a solo homer in the fourth inning, and got another run in the fifth, to outlast Henderson State 6-5 in a back-and-forth game one of Saturday's doubleheader in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

Henderson got to work early, when Ashleigh Erb singled up the middle to score Courtney Warren, giving the Reddies a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. SWOSU answered quickly, though, in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs on three hits and two HSU errors to recapture a 3-1 advantage.

The Reddies tied things up quickly in the second, when Bethany Allen walked with the bases loaded to score Keirsten Seahorn, and Warren hit a deep fly to right field which scored Michelle Sorensen to make it 3-3. Seahorn then put Henderson back in front in the third with a double to left center, which scored Alexis Morton from second and put the Reddies up 4-3.

The lead was short-lived, as the Bulldogs scored a run to tie it in the bottom of the third and then got a solo homerun from Taya Haney in the fourth to retake the lead, 5-4. SWOSU got an insurance run in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Bailey King, and carried a 6-4 advantage into the seventh.

Down to its final three outs, Henderson attempted to rally, and got one run back on an RBI single to right field from Morton which scored Warren. Still trailing by a run and with runners on the corners, the Reddies had a chance to tie it, but the Bulldog pitcher, Haney, got the next batter to groundout, ending it for SWOSU, 6-5.

Warren and Seahorn had strong games for the Reddies at the plate, with both collecting two hits and Warren scoring a pair of runs. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Henderson.

GAME TWO:

Southwestern Oklahoma State used a five-run sixth inning to get past Henderson State 10-9 and sweep the Saturday doubleheader.

SWOSU jumped out to the lead with two runs in the first to make it 2-0, but Henderson answered in the second with an RBI single from Rebekah Teel which scored Ashleigh Erb, and a double from Alexis Morton which scored Keirsten Seahorn and Teel, to take its first lead of the game, 3-2.

The Bulldogs responded with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to retake a 4-3 advantage, but the Reddies kept the high-scoring affair rolling in the third, with two runs of their own on a double from Teel to score Erb and a sac bunt from Seahorn which scored Teel, to put the Reddies back in front 5-4.

An RBI single from Abigail Schade tied things up for SWOSU in the fourth inning, but Henderson seemingly opened things up in the top of the sixth, when, with two outs and runners on second and third, Teel smashed a triple into left field to score two and push HSU's lead out to 7-5.

The lead did not last long, as the Bulldogs quickly answered with five runs, and were aided by three Reddies errors in the inning, to seize a 10-7 lead heading into the seventh.

For the second time on the day, Henderson nearly rallied with its back against the wall, as the Reddies loaded the bases and got two runs back on a single from Trapp which scored Brooklynn Jimeson and a deep fly from Warren which scored Michelle Sorensen. With runners on first and second with one out, HSU had an opportunity to tie or take the lead, but it was not to be, as SWOSU got an out at second on a fielder's choice and a pop out to end it, 10-9.

Teel had a day to remember offensively for the Reddies, as she went 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a triple — just a homerun shy of the cycle — while also knocking in 4 RBIs and scoring twice herself.

Henderson out-hit the Bulldogs 15-12, but four errors and 11 stranded baserunners hurt the Reddies in game two and helped SWOSU sweep the day.

HSU's next games are on Tuesday at Dee White Field against rival Ouachita Baptist, with the first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for 4 p.m.
