Tigers salvage series with game two rout

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' softball team split their doubleheader finale with Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Alva, Okla. The Tigers scored eight runs in the sixth inning and took game two by a final of 15-4. The win followed the Tigers' 5-2 game one loss to Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers are now 17-29 overall and 11-23 in conference play. Macy Wilson went 3-6 on the day with two runs scored and four RBI. Sarah Johnson, Natalie Jackson and Macy Nantz all homered in game two. Marissa Butler picked the win in game two, her seventh of the season.

In game one, Ouachita held a 2-1 lead after scoring two runs in top half of the third inning. Macy Wilson and Daniella Brantley hit back-to-back two out singles. Wilson scored from second on a fielding error and Brantley scored thanks to a RBI single from Kelsey O'Brien. Ouachita held a 2-1 lead until the bottom fo the sixth inning when NWOSU scored three runs. All three runs came with two outs in the inning. The Rangers would hold on for the 5-2 win and take a 3-0 series lead.

Macy Nantz put the Tigers up 1-0 in game two with a first-inning solo shot to right field. It was Nantz's eighth home run of the season. Ouachita added three more runs in the second inning, two by way of an error and one on a bases-loaded walk. Sarah Johnson led of the fourth with a solo shot over the left field wall to put the Tigers up 5-3. They added a sixth run in the inning on another bases-loaded walk.

The Tigers extended their to 7-3 in the fifth inning. Macy Wilson's two-out single drove in Macy Nantz. Ouachita put the game away in the top of the sixth inning when the offense exploded for eight runs. Kelly Powell, Madison Crosby and Cassie Cantu all singled to open the inning and load the bases. Paige Purifoy was hit by a pitch to score Powell. Nantz singled home a run and Wilson followed with a two-run single. Daniella Brantley followed with a single, scoring both Wilson and Nantz. Natalie Jackson capped off the inning with a two-run shot to left. The Tigers led 15-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth. NWOSU scored a run in the bottom half of the inning but could do no more and the Tigers would hold and take the series finale by a final of 15-4.

This week, the Tigers have six games slated. They will travel across HWY 7/67 to face rival Henderson State on Tuesday, April 18 at 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. The Tigers will host Southwestern Oklahoma State on April 21-22 at Rab Rodgers Field. Saturday's doubleheader will include a special ceremony between games to honor seniors Daniella Brantley and Macy Nantz.
