Doubleheader split gives Tigers series advantage over Reddies

April 20, 2017

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' softball team split a conference doubleheader with the Henderson State Reddies on Tuesday.

The Tigers won the first game by a final score of 2-1 and lost the second game by a final score of 1-5. The one win gives the Tigers a series win over the Reddies after Ouachita won both games of a doubleheader earlier this season.

A stellar pitching performance from Marissa Butler saw the Tigers win the first game of the day. Butler pitched a complete game, struck out four batters, and only conceded four hits in the win. Two second-inning runs were all it took for the Tigers to clinch the victory.

Ouachita started the second game well with a first-inning run, but Henderson responded with a fury after Selena Mendoza hit a three-run home run to give Henderson a 4-1 lead at the end of the first. The Tigers never responded and lost the game by a final score of 5-1.

The Tigers will play Southwestern Oklahoma State at home this weekend. The games will start on Friday, April 21 with a doubleheader at 3 and 5 p.m.
