AHS Art dominates competitions

Mr. McClure's Art Class at Alva High School

During the 2016-2017 school year students in Greg McClure's work on their art projects ranging from sculpting to watercolor painting.

Art competitions are a staple of any art class and Alva usually has many students competing and many that place well.

At the Woodward Paul Laune Show, Alva had nine students place and nine whose art pieces were showed at the showcasing.

Then at the Enid Red Dirt sophomore Leah Maier placed first in acrylic painting and second in sculpture, senior Wyatt Radford placed first and third in photography, senior Isaiah Martinez placed second and third in mixed media, and sophomore Audra Chapman placed first in sculpture.

This past week Alva High Art competed at the Panhandle Area Art Competition. Many Alva students did very well at this competition. Isaac Thompson won Best of Show, Trevor Allison won a merit award, Kristen Perks won a merit award, Edgar Cabrall won two merit awards and won the potters wheel competition, Derrick Ashley won a merit award, Amanda Breeden won the quick draw contest, and Isaiah Martinez won a merit award.

Alva won the overall sweepstakes against over 500 students from our extended area.
