Tigers blank Southeastern, advance to finals

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Ouachita Tigers' men's tennis team defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State in the semifinals of the 2017 GAC Tennis Championships, in Bentonville, Ark., by a final of 5-0. The Tigers took all three doubles matches from the #2-seeded Savage Storm and won two singles matches to lock up the victory. Ouachita will face top-seeded Oklahoma Baptist in the finals on Saturday.

In the #3 doubles match, Andre Stefano and Braydon Montgomery defeated Southeastern's Bouteiller & Colak by a final 8-4 putting the Tigers up 1-0. The tandem of Lennart Lonnemann and Dan Kaplun took out Southeastern's Popovic & Pardus, 8-2. Luis Chab and Juan Moncada were pushed to their limits versus Alcabas & Blesa, but prevailed 9-7 to complete the doubles sweep.

Lonnemann made quick work of Alberto Blesa in the #1 singles match. The junior won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. In the #3 singles match, freshman and All-GAC First Team selection, Juan Moncada clinched the win for Ouachita with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Kelian Bouteiller.


The Tigers will now face Oklahoma Baptist for the GAC Tennis Championship title on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m. This marks Ouachita's fifth appearance in the GAC men's tennis finals in six years.
