Pot found, student arrested at SBHS and in juvenile facility

April 26, 2017

On Friday, April 21, at 1:20 p.m., the Kiowa Police Department received a call that prompted them to take the drug dog to South Barber High School, Kiowa Police Chief Steve Johnson said when contacted by the Newsgram Monday.

The chief said KPD Officer Warren Howerter responded as did Barber County Sheriff Lonnie Small, who brought the county's drug dog. Sheriff Small is the drug dog handler.

When the drug dog ran the halls, Sheriff Johnson confirmed “a small amount of marijuana was found.” He said that a student, who is a juvenile, was arrested and taken to the Bob Johnson's Juvenile Facility in Hutch. The juvenile remained in the facility as of Monday afternoon, the chief said.
