April 26, 2017

ADA, Okla. — Southern Nazarene came up short in Ada Okla. as East Central came away with 4-3 and 10-2 victories Monday afternoon.

In the opener, after Southern Nazarene held East Central hitless through the first two innings, the Tigers broke through the hit column with a solo home run in the third to take a 1-0 lead. ECU added two more runs in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead into the fifth.

The Crimson Storm got on the scoreboard in the sixth. With runners on second and third, a Hannah LeBeau single through the left side scored both Amy Reynolds and Sam Smith.

East Central led 3-2 going into the seventh. Kylie Palmer led the inning off for SNU with a single to center. Kriston Shumaker moved Palmer into scoring position after laying down a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Jacey James was able to knot the game up at 3-3 as she drove in Palmer with a RBI single to right center. The Storm were able to load the bases up but couldn't capitalize as ECU got out of the inning, limiting SNU to one run.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers loaded the bases up and got a walk-off hit by pitch to down the Storm 4-3.

Brooke Tate (2-9) took the loss after giving up four runs, on four hits, in 1.1 innings of work. James went 2-for-4 with an RBI. LeBeau went 1-for 3 with two RBI and Katelyn Brown extended her hitting streak to ten games as she went 1-for-4.

In the nightcap, East Central got out to an early lead and never looked back. The Tigers struck for five runs in the second, four in the third, and one more in the fourth to give ECU a 10-0 lead.

Southern Nazarene attempted a rally in the fifth. Cheyenne Reynolds was able to score on a throwing error, then a Katelyn Brown sacrifice fly scored Kendal Stockstill, trimming the Tiger lead to eight runs. That's as close as SNU would get as East Central found the win column with a 10-2 victory.

Katelyn Brown (14-15) got the loss after as she gave up three runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work. Brown went 1-for-2 with an RBI. With her hit, Brown extended her hitting streak to 11 games.
