Eagles Drop Hillcat Baseball in Doubleheader on Senior Day

CLAREMORE, Okla. – On a day when nine seniors were honored at the Diamond Sports Complex, the Rogers State baseball team fell, 3-1 and 11-7, to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in Friday's Heartland Conference doubleheader.
GAME ONE
Despite matching the Eagles with six hits in the opening game, RSU fell 3-1 after allowing two runs in the fifth inning.
Josh Garbrecht singled with no outs in the fifth inning to score Garrett Wages and Hayden Strobel scored on a double play ground out by Lane Paul to give OC the 3-1 lead in the seven inning affair.
OC took a 1-0 lead in the third inning before Sam Casinelli doubled to left center to lead off the home half of the inning. After a Brooks Douglass bunt single moved Casinelli to third, Matt Seubert singled to center to even the score.
Dalton Rentz (9-3) earned the complete game victory as the Eagles' starter went seven innings allowing six hits and one earned run with four strikeouts.
Tim Luce (6-5) suffered the loss in the start lasting four innings while giving up three earned runs on six hits. Landon Nealon and Justin Magstadt combined for three innings of scoreless relief work.
GAME TWO
After allowing OC to build an eight run lead the Hillcats responded by outscoring the Eagles 7-3 in the final four innings including a five run ninth but it wasn't enough as RSU fell 11-7 in game two.
Sam Davison singled through the left side for an RBI as Casinelli scored from third to begin the five-run ninth inning. Jordan Garr drew a walk to load the bases and force the Eagles to the bullpen. Senior Chris Miguel drew a walk to score Douglass and Davison scored on a wild pitch to pull the score to 11-5 in favor of OC.
A ground out to short by Jason Marley scored Garr and Miguel would score on a wild pitch before the Eagles retired the Hillcats with one stranded to earn the 11-7 victory.
OC jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning before RSU watched the Eagles lead swell to 8-0 through five innings. The Hillcats plated one run in the sixth inning on a throwing error by the Eagles third baseman.
After the Eagles scored two more runs in the seventh the Hillcats posted a run in the eighth as Miguel doubled to left center scoring Garr from first to pull the Hillcats within eight runs trailing 10-2.
Spencer Bivens (8-3) suffered the loss as he lasted just 4.2 innings in the start allowing seven hits and six runs, five earned, while fanning three batters and walking one.
Mason McAlister (5-3) earned the victory as the Oklahoma Christian (28-20, 13-10) starter went seven innings allowing six hits while striking out five and giving up just one run, unearned, and one walk.
Rogers State (30-16, 10-10) is scheduled to close out the series with Oklahoma Christian at Noon on Sunday, April 30 at the Diamond Sports Complex. Live video streaming will be provided on the Hillcat Network at http://www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
