Dow tabbed as Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Co-National Player of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – SAU Softball senior first baseman Maddie Dow has been named as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Co-National Player of the Week after helping the Lady Muleriders to a 4-2 week that included a four-game sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma to conclude the regular season.

In those six games, Dow hit .636 (7-for-11) and slugged .818 with a pair of doubles and six runs scored. Most impressively, the Bonham, Texas, native walked 11 times (two intentional) and reached base on a hit-by-pitch as she totaled an on-base percentage of .826.

The 11 walks pushed Dow into third-place all-time in career walks in NCAA Division II history. She currently has 169 base on balls for her career and 11 more walks this postseason would give her the career record.

During the final series of the regular season against Southeastern Oklahoma, Dow reached base in all 16 plate appearances. Defensively, Dow has recorded 31 putouts and fielded a perfect 1.000 in her last six games.

Wednesday's accolade for Dow marks the fourth time a Lady Mulerider has received the weekly national recognition from the NFCA and the first time this season. The last two instances both occurred in the same week as Kaylee Garner and Darian Harris were named the NFCA National Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively on February 10, 2016, while pitcher Hanna Gill became the first SAU player to receive the honor on February 27, 2013.
