UAM Softball falls in second GAC tournament match-up

 


BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team was defeated by number one seed Harding in the second match-up of the Great American Conference Championship Tournament, 2-0.

The Blossoms (34-22, 26-16 GAC) in the second round of games of the GAC Tournament was locked in a pitchers duel against the top overall seed Harding University (52-6, 40-4 GAC) as this contest remained scoreless until the third inning.

HU scored first after a double down the left field line to take a 1-0 lead, and the Bisons followed up in the top of the fourth inning, scoring a run after a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to hold a 2-0 advantage over UAM.

Unfortunately Arkansas-Monticello could not capitalize late in the ballgame and fell to Harding by a final score of 2-0.

Kaylee Freeman threw a complete game of 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs, and tallied one strikeout.

UAM was led on offense by Kendra Coleman who went 2-for-3 in the game, and McKenzie Rice and Jordan Herbner each produced one hit a piece as well.

Arkansas-Monticello will return to action in the GAC Championship Tournament tomorrow, Friday, May 5, as the Blossoms will take on sixth seed Southern Nazarene in an elimination game set for 10:30 a.m.
