Marva Lee Nakvinda was born June 2, 1951, in Anthony, Kansas, daughter of Marvin Everett and Tressie (Anderson) Folger. After a few years of farm life in Manchester, Oklahoma, the family moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated from North High School.

After graduating, Marva married and was blessed with one son, Douglas. Her family made their home in Enid, Oklahoma. Marva spent Doug's early years as a mother and homemaker. As he grew older she worked several part time jobs before going to work for George E. Failing Company, where she worked for many years.
