Aline-Cleo teacher charged

• Drug related felonies

Mark Duane Burdine, 46, of Aline has been charged with three felony counts of violation of Oklahoma statute via computer. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for not more than five years or by a fine of not more than $5,000, or by both such imprisonment and fine. In addition, Burdine is charged with three misdemeanor counts of endeavoring to possess controlled dangerous substance. Burdine is listed as a history teacher on the Aline-Cleo Schools website. The charges were filed May 11 in Alfalfa County.

According to court documents, on March 2 Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Agent Brandon Powell served a search warrant at the Aline-Cleo High School and seized an Apple iPhone 6 Plus from Burdine. Agent Powell received a search warrant for the contents of the phone, and forensic extraction was performed by District 26 D.A. Investigator Steve Tanio. Over 24,000 messages were recovered.

The charges are based on messages between Burdine and David Powell, an Aline-Cleo coach who was charged with possession of controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school or park on Feb. 24. Agent Powell believes some of the messages referred to attempts to obtain marijuana and others were about obtaining synthetic urine and hand warmer type heating pads.
