Losing party to pay fees in civil cases under Oklahoma law

 


OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A law recently signed by Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin will change how attorney fees in civil lawsuits are paid.

The Tulsa World (http://bit.ly/2pRo3mz ) reports that the new law requires the losing party to pay all legal fees in civil cases. Each side usually pays its own attorney fees, with some exceptions.

The law also increases the age for child sexual abuse victims to bring a civil case from 20 to 45.

Oklahoma Bar Association Executive Director John Williams says those most affected will be people with assets.
