Woods County 4-H'er selected as new State 4-H Ambassador

A group of 4-H club members from around the state have a new opportunity to demonstrate their leadership skills as they begin serving as State 4-H ambassadors.
Austin Rankin, a member of the Waynoka 4-H Club in Woods County, is one of nine 4-H'ers selected for this honor.
"As someone who has deep roots in 4-H, I immediately fell in love with the organization. I wanted to be an ambassador to help as many others to experience this love and receive the same opportunities that I have," Rankin said. "I will use this ambassadorship to share the 4-H story with anyone and everyone that I can. I will also use my ambassadorship and influence to make sure that 4-H continues to have a lasting impact upon Oklahoma's youth and successfully keep on making the best better," he said.
Cathy Allen, assistant specialist with the Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service, and adviser for the State 4-H ambassadors, said the purpose of this group truly lies in its name.
"This group of 4-H'ers truly are ambassadors for the entire 4-H Youth Development Program. It's their job to help spread the word about what 4-H is and the positive impact it has on Oklahoma youth, help club members and volunteers feel good about being involved and encouraging others to serve as leaders," Allen said. "All nine of the new ambassadors have wonderful leadership and public speaking qualities that will serve them well in their new role. They're also full of new and exciting ideas on how to fulfill their responsibilities and how they can 'make the best better' across Oklahoma."
Susan Holliday and Greg Highfill, 4-H educators in Woods County, are excited to have Rankin as an ambassador.
"Austin exemplifies what it means to be an ambassador. He is a great role model for all of our 4-H'ers in Woods County and I know he will be a great asset to the group," Holliday said.
