While the recent rain has been welcome for crops and gardens, it was taken a toll on streets and roadways in Alva. The city is planning major work on the heavily traveled Flynn Street soon, including the downtown area.

At Monday’s Alva City Council meeting, Business Manager Joe Don Dunham said Flynn from Third to Ninth Street is slated for an asphalt overlay this summer. Dunham said the city will close off and work on only one side of the street at a time in order to disrupt businesses as little as possible. The finished street will be from curb to curb.
