New and excited faces among Alva administrators

As the 2016-2017 school year comes to a close and the stress of school wears off there’s always the big obstacle of teacher and administrator job openings. This year there were four principal jobs open, which resulted in three familiar faces and one new face. Stephanie Marteney will take over the principal job at Alva Middle School, Madison Williams as the Lincoln Elementary principal, Shane Feely at Washington Elementary, and Alysson Tucker will be transferring principal jobs from Washington to Longfellow Elementary.

Marteney will take over for Ron Sunderland at AMS. Marteney has been the counselor at AMS for four years now and has done an excellent job but will now do an amazing job succeding Sunderland as principal.

Madison Williams has been a teacher-principal for this past year because Tim Argo, Lincoln principal, was selected as the assistant superintendent. Williams has done an amazing job of balancing teacher and principal throughout the whole year. Since she has done the principal job for a year now she will do an outstanding job of being the principal at Lincoln.

Alysson Tucker has been the Washington principal for many years. When Steve Shiever, the current Longfellow principal, was offered a superintendent position outside of the Alva school system, Tucker applied and was hired as the Longfellow Elementary principal.

Tucker said, “Over the years there’s been things I’ve thought about for this age group at Longfellow. I’m excited to do some more inspiration stuff on the walls and be more motivational because the older age group can read.”

As you can tell, Tucker is very excited for this new challenge in her career.

Alva school system’s last principal job and new face to the crowd is Shane Feely, who will take over the duty of Washington Elementary’s principal as well as the Alva High School boys basketball coach. Feely is unfamiliar to the school system but a very familiar face in Alva. Many look forward to his new principal job and especially his coaching. Feely is transferring from Burlington Schools, along with his wife, who will be taking over the elementary music teacher position.

We would like to wish the best of luck to these new administrators in the next Alva Public School year.
