Paul Duncan to be Enid boys head basketball coach
May 19, 2017
ENID, Okla. - Paul Duncan, hired Monday as Enid's boys head basketball coach, arrives with 22 years of head coaching experience and 300 wins.
Those wins came from five previous high schools, most recently at Alva High School, where he went 118-41 overall in six seasons. Prior to Alva, he had stops at Wyandotte, Wynnewood, Oologah and Warner.
Duncan said Tuesday he "chose to come to Enid because of the opportunity to be part of a program that is about to take off, not only basketball, but football and other sports."
He had the chance to meet his new players on Tuesday during a team meeting. "The meeting went great," Duncan said. "There are lots of guys that are excited and are ready to get to work."
The Plainsmen have not had a winning season since 2010, when they finished 17-10 and lost in the area finals. Since 2010, they have failed to make it past the first round of regionals.
Duncan is confident he can turn around a program that went 4-19 this past season.
"It's going to take hard work in practice and accountability in the classroom," he said. "We already have a new culture with the administration, now we need to bring the hard work and work ethic."
Duncan succeeds Kyle Hilterbran as the Plainsmen head coach. Hilterbran went 11-34 in two seasons and stepped down after accepting a position as the middle school principal at Clinton.
