10 Rangers to watch series: Cody Halvorson
June 4, 2017
The Northwestern Oklahoma State Athletic Department will be announcing ten Rangers throughout the summer that Ranger fans can expect to make direct impacts on their team's success. These athletes are leaders for their respective sports and will be looking to contribute to the rise of Northwestern Athletics during the 2017-2018 school year.
Cody Halvorson established himself as one of the elite outside shooters in the Great American Conference in his first season in Alva following a two-year career at Hesston College. The Temple, Texas, native ranked fifth in the conference with a 43 percent shooting percentage from three-point range, and consistently stretched out opposing defenses to create scoring opportunities for other Rangers.
Halvorson finished the season ranked second in both scoring (11.2) as well as minutes per game (29). His best performance during this past season came in the final contest of the year on Feb. 25 against Ouachita Baptist in which he hit eight of nine shots from behind the three point line in route to match his season high of 27 points.
His ability to consistently knock down the outside shot led Cody to being selected as a GAC Co-Player of the Week after three consecutive Ranger wins over Southwestern Oklahoma State, Oklahoma Baptist and East Central.
Halvorson will enter his final season in the black and red ready to lead the Rangers back into the GAC post season tournament. His reliable touch from the perimeter will be vital as head coach Shawn Dirden revamps the roster heading into his second year at the helm of the program.
“Cody finished his first season for our Ranger squad as one of the top three-point shooters in the GAC,” coach Dirden said. “His efforts night after night really opened things up for both the GAC's second leading scorer, Adrian Motley, and our team. Cody has a great consistency in his approach to practice and games and that consistency translated into much needed leadership for last year's team. I look for Cody to continue you what he's started here in his senior season on the court as not only a top three-point shooter but also as a leader.”
