Tulsa sheriff's office has $3M in legal fees since 2011

TULSA, Okla. (AP) — The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office has accumulated $3 million in legal fees since 2011 from the use of several outside law firms.

A county records analysis by the Tulsa World (http://bit.ly/2rnqTj2 ) shows the sheriff's office primarily used four law firms from 2011 through mid-May of this year to handle cases.

Sheriff Vic Regalado, who's been in office for just over a year, inherited most of the litigation from Stanley Glanz's previous administration.

Regalado says the office has an obligation to ensure quality employees and systems to avoid the need for lawsuits. But he says there are times where they should be held accountable through the court system.

The sheriff says he has significantly improved the Tulsa Jail, an institution that's recently been a target of lawsuits.
