10 Rangers to Watch: Steven Deckard

The Northwestern Oklahoma State Athletic Department will be announcing ten Rangers throughout the summer that Ranger fans can expect to make direct impacts on their team's success. These athletes are leaders for their respective sports and will be looking to contribute to the rise of Northwestern Athletics during the 2017-2018 school year.

Junior Steven Deckard will return to Alva this fall ready to build on a stellar sophomore campaign that saw him hit .405 at the dish, despite missing a month of action during the heart of the season due to an injury. Deckard continued to develop the talent he showed his freshman season and became a staple in the middle of the Ranger's line-up.

His best single-game performance came back on April 25 in non-conference action against Oklahoma Panhandle State in which he produced a 4-for-4 line with three RBI's and a double. His impact at the plate was felt throughout the entire season as he recorded a hit in 22-of-28 games that he appeared in.

The St. Charles, Missouri, product drove in 16 RBIs throughout the season, good enough for second on the team in the category, while also delivering eight doubles during the year, tied for the most on the squad. His consistent approach at the plate will be relied upon heavily as the Rangers look to improve on a .238 team average under new head coach Ryan Bowen.

Deckard's third campaign for the Black-and-Red promises to be a major improvement over a difficult 2017 campaign in which the Rangers posted a 14-34 overall record. With the return of Deckard as well as other key contributors on the diamond, coach Bowen will have the tools necessary for a quick turnaround for the program heading into this spring.
