Kiowa without power almost 24 hours due to near 100 mph straight line winds

Many Kiowa residents said their homes shook, the sound was deafening and it was scary. No, it wasn't a tornado. It was straight-line winds estimated at between 80 and 100 mph, according to Kiowa City Administrator Lou Leone and Kiowa Police Chief Steve Johnson.
At approximately 1 a.m. Friday, the catastrophic winds hit Kiowa that also raged into some neighboring towns as well. Huge trees were uprooted, some barrel-size branches slammed into walls of homes.
