The storm takes down the old Virgil's Drugstore, locals share fond memories

 

Amorita resident Shelly Stewart took this shot of the legendary Virgil's Drugstore building burning after the storm.

Early Friday morning, June 30, when the excessively high straight-line winds damaged many of the rural communities in this area, one old building went down in Amorita that has the locals talking.

The building housed the Frey Brothers Store in Amorita from 1946-2000. Virgil, the brother who survived the longest, was famous for making "the best chocolate malts."

Local sources said volunteer firefighter Rodney Wade owns the property. The building had collapsed due to the storm Thursday night. When everyone was cleaning up from the storm Friday Wade reportedly said it was fine for everyone to stac...
