More kids participate in AHS summer athletic programs

 


This summer, the Alva school board switched from allowing coaches to run their own independent summer athletic camps to school-sponsored camps. By paying the coaches directly as an extra duty assignment, the participation costs per student fell to $10 from typically $50. This meant more families could afford to participate.

The cost to the district for this modification was approved at the June 2017 meeting with changes to the extra duty pay lists.

The changes for summer work are as follows:

Scott Baugh, head summer baseball – $2637.50

Mike Claflin, assistant summer coach – $1,970
