City of Kiowa gets grant, generator arrives, Bryan Chevrolet donates car to city

• 25-year-old transformer blows Monday night, causes power outage for some for two hours


Monday night after dark, many people who live south of Main Street in Kiowa, Kansas, were without electricity for approximately two hours.

It turns out an old transformer (estimated at 25 years old) at Seventh and Robinson streets blew up, according to City Administrator Lou Leone. He said, “Lots of people were affected and they were out for two hours.” Leone described the way the old transformers are wired: “like old Christmas lights. When one blew, it blew out all the circuits.” He said those old transformers don't like the 100 degree days that are the norm in mid-July.
