The Alva Garden Council has selected Brown's Shoe Fit Company as the July Blooming Business of the Month. The sidewalk bed overflows with bright colorful annuals. Shirley Wilkins and Kasey Chaffin have maintained the plot in front of the business for the past six years. In the spring, the bed is filled with daffodils. Later in the season, the self-sown mixture of orange marigolds and pink coneflowers comes out. Wilkins says she then brings plants like yellow cosmos from home to fill in the gaps.
