Cruise & Car Show venue approved

August 16, 2017

The BancCentral-sponsored Cruise & Car Show is now approved for its usual venue, the downtown area of Alva. Joe Phillips, co-director of the event, attended the Woods County commissioners meeting held Monday, Aug. 14, to speak to the board about the Cruise & Car Show, which will be held Sept. 15–17. In his short speech, Phillips spoke of the success and draw of the event, as it attracts thousands of people to Alva every year and is one of Alva's bigger events. The event will also be providing its own trash pickup. “It [the event] is a good deal,” Commissioner Randy McMurphy said before the group voted yes to the proposal.

Next, the new health department interim administrator, Terri Salisbury, attended the meeting to intoduce herself to the board. The board had met her before when she attended a past meeting as the regional director of the health department.

Another item of note at the Woods County commissioners' meeting was a single bid the board received in response to their request for bids on a chip and seal road fix for a four mile stretch of County Road 500, half a mile of Craig Road, and half a mile of Custer Road.

The bid came from B & H Paving, Inc., which bid the project at a $16,567 rate per mile. The board briefly discussed the bid, before tabling the agenda item for further bid review.
