10 Rangers to Watch Series: Maurice Wright Jr.

August 18, 2017

The Northwestern Oklahoma State Athletic Department has been announcing ten Rangers throughout the summer that Ranger fans can expect to make direct impacts on their team's success. These athletes are leaders for their respective sports and will be looking to contribute to the rise of Northwestern Athletics during the 2017-2018 school year.

Luther native Maurice Wright Jr. will return to the field for Ranger football following a break-out season during his freshman campaign. Wright finished third in the conference with 108 tackles last season and will be in an even better position to cause havoc to opposing offenses as he has made a position change under new defensive coordinator Ken Gordon to linebacker. Gordon's defensive style and the freedom he allows his linebackers to make read-and-react plays figures to fit Wright's playing style perfectly.

Wright announced himself as a defensive force to be reckoned with early and often last season as he recorded over 10 or more tackles in three out of the first four games for the Rangers. His best performance of the season came back on Oct. 15 against Oklahoma Baptist in which he recorded 14 tackles, a fumble recovery, as well as an interception on his way to being named the Great American Conference Player of the Week for his performance.

Wright and company will get the season underway on the road at Ouachita Baptist on Oct. 31 against Ouachita Baptist.
