The Alva community has attracted a new convenience store and eating establishment on the east side of town next to Atwoods.

Brinden Shepherd, one of the partners of this family business, is a Blackwell resident, graduating from BHS in 1966. He saw college time at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and Oklahoma State University.

Shepherd's grandfather started Shepherd Oil Company in 1949. Shepherd said, "I'm the third generation. My dad is still the owner: I, my brother and brother-in-law are all partners."
