Woods County Free Fair has entertainment for all ages

September 3, 2017

There are so many things to see and do at the Woods County Free Fair to be held at the Woods County Fairgrounds on Sept. 7–9. Activities scheduled will be fun for the entire family.

The Death by Chocolate contest will be decided by a panel of judges beginning Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Women’s Building on the fairgrounds. New for 2017, there will be a junior division in the Death by Chocolate contest for youth 18 years of age and younger. Anyone can enter their favorite chocolate item – a cake, a pie, a dessert, cookies, brownies or anything using the best chocolate ingredients. The top three chocolate dishes in both the adult and junior divisions can win cash prizes.

On Friday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 p.m., the Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE) groups will have their annual ice cream contest. Everyone is invited to make a freezer of their favorite ice cream. Entries should be taken to the Women’s Building by 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Following judging, cups of homemade ice cream can be purchased for just $1.

Also on Friday beginning at 7 p.m., the Woods County Fair Board will host a free community dinner and concert featuring the duo, Alaska and Madi, from the popular television show “The Voice.” First come, first served, so get there early! The fair board is also generously providing several outdoor activities for kids, including bounce houses and slides, bungee trampoline, a trackless train, and a dunk tank. On Saturday, Sept. 9, there will be a team roping competition beginning at 2 p.m.

Fabulous food will be available all during the fair at the fair kitchen, including homemade pies and layered desserts, and daily specials. Outdoor food vendors will offer some favorite fairs foods, including funnel cakes, deep fried Oreos and snow cones.

Don’t forget to visit all the vendors in the Merchants Building. As always, there will be lots of free giveaways, interesting items for sale, as well as great information from our local businesses. Come early, enjoy the entire Woods County Free Fair.
